World open-sourced ProveKit, a zero-knowledge identity proving toolkit used in World ID early access in April. It lets users generate cryptographic proofs on phones or browsers to prove age, nationality or ownership of a valid identity document without revealing personal data; the verifier only receives confirmation of the specific claim. "We are now launching ProveKit open source because we believe this technology is key for privacy-preserving authentication and must be neutral and permissionless," a spokesperson said. ProveKit, about two years in development, supports Noir, runs on standard consumer hardware (proofs in seconds on typical phones, under 30 seconds on low-end devices), targets 128-bit post-quantum security and requires no trusted setup. v1 is production-ready for off-chain verification; v2 aims to reduce proof size, proving time and memory and add more efficient on-chain verification. A report that Nexus is selling scans of more than 153 million U.S. and Canadian driver's licenses has prompted calls to authenticate identity documents using zero-knowledge proofs, Remco Bloemen wrote on X.
