About Cardano

Cardano crypto is a decentralised platform that will allow complex programmable transfers of value in a secure and scalable fashion. Cardano blockchain platform is built with the goal to allow “changemakers, innovators and visionaries” to bring about positive global change. It is one of the first blockchains to be built in the highly secure Haskell programming language.

What is the ADA token?

Every blockchain project has a token of value commonly referred to as a cryptocurrency. Ada is the cryptocurrency on the Cardano blockchain. With Ada, holders can send value between friends, pay for a good or service, deposit funds on an exchange, or enter an application. To perform a transfer on the settlement layer requires you own Ada, or acquire Ada through an exchange. It will also be the native token to be used in applications built on the computation layer.

What is the goal of Cardano?

Cardano is building a decentralised platform to empower all kinds of talents to bring about positive global change.

The open-source project also aims to “redistribute power from unaccountable structures to the margins to individuals” and help to create a society that is more secure, transparent and fair.

When was Cardano founded?

Cardano was founded back in 2017, and named after the 16th century Italian polymath Gerolamo Cardano. The native ADA token takes its name from the 19th century mathematician Ada Lovelace, widely regarded as the world’s first computer programmer. The ADA token is designed to ensure that owners can participate in the operation of the network. Because of this, those who hold the cryptocurrency have the right to vote on any proposed changes to the software.

In August 2021, Charles Hoskinson announced the launch of the Alonzo hard fork, causing Cardano price to surge, gaining 116% in the following month. On Sept. 12, 2021, the Cardano ‘Alonzo’ hard fork officially launched, bringing smart contract functionality to the blockchain. Over 100 smart contracts were deployed in the following 24 hours after the launch.

Cardano is used by agricultural companies to track fresh produce from field to fork, while other products built on the platform allow educational credentials to be stored in a tamper-proof way, and retailers to clamp down on counterfeit goods.

What are the use cases of Cardano?

The team behind the layered blockchain say that there have already been some compelling use cases for its technology, which aims to allow decentralised apps and smart contracts to be developed with modularity.

Who Are the Founders of Cardano?

Cardano was founded by Charles Hoskinson, who was also one of the co-founders of the Ethereum network. He is the CEO of IOHK, the company that built Cardano’s blockchain.

In an interview for CoinMarketCap’s Crypto Titans series, Hoskinson said that he got involved in cryptocurrencies back in 2011 — and dabbled in mining and trading. He explained that his first professional involvement in the industry came in 2013, when he created a course about Bitcoin that ended up being taken by 80,000 students.

As well as being a technology entrepreneur, Hoskinson is also a mathematician. In 2020, his technology company donated ADA worth $500,000 to the University of Wyoming’s Blockchain Research and Development Lab.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Exchange Currency?
When converting one currency to another, you use the exchange rate between the two currencies. For example, an exchange rate of 1 USD to 2 EUR means you can exchange 1 USD for 2 EUR, or 2 EUR for 1 USD. The exchange rate represents the value of one currency relative to another; please use our currency converter for details.
Which Currencies Can I Convert using This Currency Converter?
With the BitKan currency converter, you can convert and query many popular currencies, including the US dollar (USD), euro (EUR), British pound (GBP), Indian rupee (INR), Canadian dollar (CAD), Australian dollar (AUD), Swiss franc (CHF), and Mexican peso (MXN).
Why are There Differences in Exchange Rates Offered by Different Companies?
Banks and other providers often set exchange rates that are favorable to themselves but unfavorable to their customers. This means you will pay more than you need, and they will pocket the difference. BitKan will always use the middle market exchange rate for your query service, i.e., the exchange rate you see on Google.
