Users can purchase these NFTs through the “Catgirl Mystery Box”, which has a range of different items up for grabs. Each box comes with the opportunity to gain NFTs, along with customizable characters and wearables. Every Catgirl has a specific rarity, ranging from common to “paw-some”.

Catgirl (CATGIRL) is the utility token that allows investors to buy the anime-themed NFTs. Out of the CATGIRL spent on these boxes, 75% goes towards a farming pool, 20% is used for product development and the rest is burned.

There are plans for social utility as well. It is working on a “Nekobook” where Catgirl holders can socialise and share tips. The plan is to make the Catgirl collecting experience “more engaging”.
The risks
Like with any investment, there are risks to purchasing these NFTs. The Catgirl team has ambitious plans but most of the utility is yet to be released. Users are still waiting for the marketplace, farming, and play to earn game.
There is a trend of NFT scams making big promises then walking away with the funds. But having only launched the NFTs in November 2021, Catgirl’s lacking features is understandable.

The Catgirl coin launched in early June 2021, five months before its NFTs went live. But according to its Twitter, it was met with early success. Within five days, the cryptocurrency had 6,000 holders and 5,000 Twitter followers. These followers have since increased by tenfold.
Yet its token did not see much price action. It was priced at $0.000000000025 on 3 June. By the end of September, it had only increased to $0.000000000029.
The cryptocurrency did begin to see some gains in the following month, however. For the first time, the project airdropped its NFTs. The top 1,000 people holding the token would receive a mystery box on the 29 October. The same day the CATGIRL price hit $0.000000009.
It climbed even further the next month as another airdrop was announced for the NFT project – 1,000 mystery boxes were up for grabs for those holding at least 500bn CATGIRL. The anime-themed token hit $0.000000011 on 8 November, the day of the airdrop.
CATGIRL was unable to keep up this price point and it plummeted over the following months. At the time of writing on 14 April, the cryptocurrency has stooped to $0.0000000014 and was down 8% in a recent seven-day period.
