Deep exploration of the Ethereum smart contract ecosystem by cryptocurrency experts has produced some intriguing results. How many smart contracts are there on Ethereum now?
According to Electric Capital developer "Emre," over 44 million smart contracts have been used on Ethereum since its launch.
Amazingly, he continued, 70% of the roughly 15 million active contracts are duplicates of one of 15 templates.
He disclosed that 22 million contracts, or more than 50% of all contracts, had been destroyed in an effort to conserve gas. Furthermore, gas token contracts make up 10% of the active ones.
He stated, "To disincentivize state bloat, EVM refunds gas to a user for destroying a contract," before adding that this led to users deploying empty contracts during periods of low gas prices and removing them during periods of high gas prices in order to receive a prompt refund.
He said that OpenSea has implemented about a million smart contracts for the sale of NFTs. About 150,000 contracts are ENS deeds, a component of the defunct Ethereum name service domain registration system.
ERC-20 token contracts, which have about 400,000 of them, were excluded from the template list because of their variances.
Etherscan reports that on August 3, the number of Ethereum daily validated contracts reached an all-time high of 602. The implementation of smart contracts has doubled this year, as seen by the graph, which indicates how the network is expanding.
Additionally, over 202 million unique Ethereum addresses reached a record high this week. With the exception of the occasional spike, the average number of transactions per day this year has been approximately 1.2 million.
