PayPal serves as the payment processor for thousands of internet businesses. In the past, opening a merchant account and investing in pricey equipment to swipe credit cards were prerequisites for accepting credit cards. PayPal made none of that necessary. How much does PayPal charge, then?
Although PayPal is practical, it is not always free.
How Much Does Paypal Charge?
Businesses that accept PayPal payments are charged a percentage of the sale as well as a flat fee. In most cases, businesses in the United States will pay a commercial fee of 3.49% of the transaction amount plus a fixed fee of 49 cents. Assume you invoice a client for $1,000 and the client chooses to pay you via PayPal. You will be paid $964.61. PayPal's 3.49% fee equals $34.90, plus a fixed fee of 49 cents.
How Do I Avoid Paypal Fees?
Change the Way You Withdraw Money From PayPal
How you withdraw money from PayPal is just as important as how you receive it.
You should do one of two things if you want to get your money quickly and avoid PayPal fees.
Transfer Funds from PayPal to Your Bank Account
The most common method of accessing your money is to transfer funds from your PayPal account to your bank account.
Standard transfers are free of charge, and funds are typically deposited in your bank account the following business day. Transfers used to take 3-4 business days, so this is an improvement. This is how I prefer to access my money the majority of the time and avoid PayPal fees.
Apply for a PayPal Cash Card
If transferring the funds to your bank account is not an option for you, you can apply for a PayPal Cash Card. This is essentially a debit card for your PayPal account, allowing you to access your funds immediately.
There is no fee for using this card at merchants that accept Mastercard. You can also use the card to withdraw cash from an ATM, up to $400 per day. In the United States, there are over 33,000 MoneyPass ATMs where you can withdraw cash for free. Other ATMs may charge you fees if you use your card there.
Request to Be Paid as a Friend or Family Member
As previously stated, whenever you receive money from clients, you will be charged $0.49 plus 3.49% of the amount. This is only true for money received in exchange for goods or services.
If your client chooses to send you money through PayPal's friends and family option, you will not be charged a fee. If the client uses their PayPal balance, a bank account, or a combination of both, they will not be charged a fee to send money using this method.
So, this is “how much does PayPal charge?” and how to avoid PayPal fees. Hope you got your answer.
