The nonprofit sector has adopted cryptocurrency, which is now more widely utilized than simply in specialized internet communities. Donors from all around the world are prepared and willing to donate cryptocurrencies to their favorite causes. Accepting cryptocurrency donations for charitable organizations is as simple as it gets . Continue reading to learn how crypto donations operate and how your organization can accept crypto donations.

Crypto donations offer a special set of advantages to the nonprofit sector. Users of cryptocurrencies tend to be younger, more tech-savvy, enthusiastic, and some have generated substantial money from trading and keeping cryptocurrencies.

A typical cryptocurrency donation costs five times as much as a conventional donation. According to a Blackbaud Institute survey, $813 was the average donation made across all nonprofit sectors. The typical donation handled by BitPay in 2021 was $4,620.

We know that millennials and high-income consumers making over $100,000 are most likely to acquire cryptocurrencies based on past BitPay and PYMNTS.com research. Meanwhile, a 2018 survey reveals that contributors in the millennial and generation z age groups are the least likely to give . Accepting cryptocurrency donations offers a chance to raise contributions from these younger, less generous demographics.

More of a donor's donation will benefit the cause if the nonprofit accepts cryptocurrency donations. Nonprofit organizations typically pay a 1% fee on donations made through a cryptocurrency payment processor, which is less than half of what credit card processors charge. Donations made in cryptocurrency are also tax deductible, much like those made in appreciated assets like stocks. Instead of selling their assets and contributing the net proceeds after taxes, donors can make direct cryptocurrency donations.

There are normally two ways for a charitable organization to accept cryptocurrency donations:

Hands-off

use a cryptocurrency payment processor, such as BitPay, to receive cryptocurrency on its behalf and convert cryptocurrency donations to cash in exchange for a nominal fee.

Hands-on

receiving and storing cryptocurrency in an organization-controlled cryptocurrency wallet.

Platforms and plugins from a third party

A quick approach to get started is through plugins and integrations, especially if they work with the systems already in place at your charitable organization.

So, this is all you need to know about how to accept crypto donations. It is pretty much better than traditional fiat money donations.
