This article is about how to cancel automatic payments on PayPal. PayPal is a great way to pay for online services and subscriptions without sharing your financial information with third-party merchants. However, if you set up automatic payments, you should be careful about managing them and canceling them when necessary.

How to Cancel Automatic Payments on PayPal?

If you use PayPal to pay for online services or subscriptions, you might have set up automatic payments at some point. This means that PayPal will charge your account every time you make a purchase or renew your subscription without requiring you to log in or confirm the payment. This can be convenient and secure, but it can also be problematic if you want to stop using the service or change your payment method.

To cancel an automatic payment on PayPal, follow these steps:

1. Log in to your PayPal account from a web browser and click on the gear icon on the top right corner to access your account settings.

2. Click on Payments on the menu below the main one and then click on Manage automatic payments under the Automatic payments section.

3. You will see a list of all the merchants that you have authorized to charge your PayPal account automatically. Make sure you select Show Active to see only the current payments.

4. Click on the merchant name that you want to cancel the payment for. You will see the details of the payment on the right side of the screen, such as the amount, frequency, status, and next billing date.

5. Click on Cancel next to Status and confirm your decision by clicking on Cancel Automatic Payments. PayPal will notify you that you have successfully canceled the payment and that you will no longer be charged by this merchant unless you reactivate it.

6. If you want to cancel more than one automatic payment, repeat steps 4 and 5 for each merchant.

How to Change the Payment Method for Automatic Payments?

If you don't want to cancel an automatic payment but want to change the payment method, such as using a different card or bank account, follow these steps:

1. Log In: Access your PayPal account through a web browser and click on the gear icon in the top right corner to access your account settings.

2. Access Automatic Payments: In the menu below the main one, click on "Payments" and then select "Manage automatic payments" under the "Automatic payments" section.

3. View Authorized Merchants: You'll see a list of all the merchants authorized to charge your PayPal account automatically. To see only the current payments, make sure to select "Show Active."

4. Choose a Merchant: Click on the name of the merchant for which you want to change the payment method. This will display details of the payment, including the amount, frequency, status, and next billing date.

5. Change Payment Method: Look for the "Payment method" section and click on "Change." From the drop-down menu, select the new payment method you want to use. If you need to add a new payment option to your PayPal account, you can click on "Link a new card or bank."

6. Save Changes: After selecting the new payment method, click on "Save." Confirm your decision by clicking on "Done." PayPal will notify you that you've successfully changed the payment method, which will be used for future payments to this merchant.

7. Repeat if Necessary: If you want to change the payment method for multiple automatic payments, simply repeat steps 4 to 6 for each merchant.

This process allows you to update your payment method for automatic payments while keeping your subscriptions and services active. It's especially useful when you want to use a different card or bank account for these payments.

Bottom Line

In this article, we have discussed how to cancel automatic payments on PayPal. You can cancel or change automatic payments on PayPal easily from your account settings in a few simple steps.
