Ether (also known as ETH) is the native coin for the Ethereum network, to put it simply. Among other things, it is used to pay the transaction fees (also known as gas costs) for transactions carried out on the Ethereum blockchain. Wrapped Ether (WETH), which is used to transact with other crypto tokens that adhere to the ERC-20 standard, has entered the market. This guide will lead you on how to convert WETH to ETH.

What Is The Difference Between WETH And ETH?

If an individual wants to use Ethereum (ETH) in ERC-20 compliant decentralized apps (DApps), blockchains, and decentralized autonomous organizations, they must first convert their ETH to WETH (DAO). If the possessor wants to combine it with other tokens , it must also be turned to WETH.

In essence, when ETH is wrapped in a smart contract and minted into WETH, it gives ETH holders more utility without ETH losing value. Having said that, efforts are being made to upgrade the Ethereum codebase to comply with ERC-20 standards, effectively making WETH obsolete.

How Does WETH Work?

It's critical to keep in mind that the ERC-20 standard for crypto tokens was developed following the development of the ETH token for the Ethereum blockchain. The Ethereum token cannot be used with other ERC-20 compliant tokens because it does not adhere to the ERC -20 standards.

For the Ethereum network, the process of converting ETH to comply with the ERC-20 tokens would be prohibitively expensive and disruptive. Therefore, it is preferable that ETH be converted into WETH before being utilized in dApps, smart contracts, and blockchains that comply with ERC-20.

When you exchange ETH for WETH, a smart contract creates a WETH token that is supported by the ETH token you are using to make the exchange. The custodian who mints the WETH ensures that the WETH has the same value as its underlying ETH token by safeguarding the private key for the ETH token.

Furthermore, the WETH is structured according to the ERC-20 standards by the smart contract, making it compatible with other ERC-20 compliant applications and programs.

Finally, WETH can be used for anything that can be done with any accepted crypto tokens, including paying for gas, making payments, trading on decentralized exchanges (DEXes), and more.

WETH can also be utilized on any ERC-20 compatible blockchains and DApps as a native token. As a result, WETH holders pay less and less in transaction fees and experience faster transactions than ETH holders. The reason for this is that ETH holders must exchange their ETH for tokens that other blockchains and the related dApps can accept.

How Much Does It Cost To Convert WETH Into ETH?

The ratio of wrapping to unwrapping is 1:1, so other than transaction fees, there are no additional costs.

How To Convert WETH To ETH

You can open it up and get ETH if you have WETH. You get the original ETH back after unwrapping (also known as burning) it. The burned WETH is recovered as ETH and placed into the cryptocurrency wallet of the previous WETH possessor.

You will need to have a wallet, such as a Metamask account, just like with wrapping ETH. Follow the same procedures as before, only pick WETH as the first asset and ETH as the second asset.

If you wish to unwrap WETH, utilizing OpenSea and a Metamask wallet is simple. Before you start unwrapping your WETH, visit the websites of each firm and create an account. You can fund your Metamask account once you sign up by using fiat money, cryptocurrencies , or a debit or credit card. Next, link your OpenSea account to your Metamask wallet. You must conduct one transaction between your OpenSea and Metamask accounts in order to do this.

Perform the following actions once you have created your Metamask and OpenSea accounts and have WETH in your OpenSea wallet:

-Visit opensea

- Go to your OpenSea account and log in.

-In the top-right portion of the screen, select the wallet icon.

- The three dots adjacent to your WETH should be clicked.

-Select "Unwrap" from the menu.

- To transfer your request into your Metamask wallet after it has been processed, click the "Confirm" button.

Congrats! Now you know how to convert WETH to ETH. It is a pretty simple process. You can just practice it in a few minutes.
