Elon Musk co-founded Zip2. an online city guide software firm, which was later acquired by Compaq for $307 million in 1999. Subsequently, he co-founded X.com, a direct bank, which merged with Confinity to form PayPal, a prominent online payment service. In 2002. eBay acquired PayPal for $1.5 billion.

Utilizing the proceeds from his entrepreneurial ventures, Elon Musk founded SpaceX in 2002. a company dedicated to spaceflight services with the ambitious goal of enabling human colonization of Mars. He also became an early investor in Tesla Motors in 2004 and assumed roles as its chairman and product architect. Following a series of financial and managerial challenges, Elon Musk took over as CEO of Tesla in 2008.

Under Elon Musk's visionary leadership, Tesla has experienced remarkable growth, emerging as one of the world's most valuable automobile companies. In 2020. Tesla surpassed Toyota in market capitalization. The company's product line has expanded from the original Roadster sports car to include the Model S sedan, Model X SUV, Model 3 mass-market vehicle, Model Y compact SUV, the futuristic Cybertruck, the Semi truck, and the upcoming Roadster 2.0.
