The Aptos network, a layer 1 blockchain, has resumed operation following a five-hour outage that affected on-chain transactions. The disruption, which brought transactions to a halt at block 104621314 around 11:11 pm UTC on October 18. prompted the Aptos team to acknowledge the issue on X (formerly Twitter). They humorously noted that "your energy on Aptos One was so intense, you turned off the lights!" They also mentioned that transactions on the network were affected and that they were actively working to resolve the problem.
During the outage, cryptocurrency exchanges Upbit and OKX temporarily suspended Aptos deposits and withdrawals and alerted their users about network maintenance. Before the incident, Aptos Labs had celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Aptos mainnet launch.
Aptos is a project backed by venture capital and was launched on October 17. 2022. by former Meta (formerly Facebook) employees who had previously worked on the Facebook Diem blockchain. It's worth noting that Aptos wasn't the only blockchain to experience issues recently. The Theta Network team reported on October 19 that a node upgrade had caused block production on the main chain to pause for several hours due to an "edge case error." However, they quickly addressed the problem, and the network resumed normal operations. In September, Coinbase's second-tier network, Base, encountered its first significant outage since its launch the previous month.
