Commencing from August 25, cryptocurrency exchange Binance will suspend its crypto debit card services in Latin America and the Middle East.
Functioning similarly to traditional debit cards, these crypto debit cards enable users to make everyday purchases using their crypto assets as the funding source. The discontinuation of these services in Latin America and the Middle East is scheduled for September 21. However, Bin ance has assured that processing refunds and disputes will still be possible until December 20, 2023. The announcement regarding the suspension was prompted by a user inquiry on X (formerly known as Twitter) about Colombia's crypto debit card.
Binance initially unveiled its plans for a crypto debit card in April 2020, aiming to enter the global payments market. By July 2020, the exchange had launched the crypto debit card in European countries and several other nations. Subsequently, Binance collaborated with payment processor Swipe to introduce crypto debit cards in the United States. Although Binance asserted that only a minimal percentage of users would be impacted by this decision, certain X posts and responses by Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao have been removed since the announcement.
