A notable Ethereum hot wallet associated with Binance has experienced a significant surge in activity recently, with a particularly intense period occurring on September 21.
During this time frame, the mentioned hot wallet expended a substantial 530 Ethereum on gas fees, amounting to roughly $840,000. Data from the Dune Analytics dashboard reveals that within the same 24-hour period, this address managed an impressive 146,582 transactions. Consequently, Ethereum's network gas fees saw a remarkable increase, surging from a low of 6 gwei to a peak of 332 gwei per transaction. This represents a staggering 5,433% increase, according to data from Etherscan.
It's worth noting that this recent activity surpasses the gas fee record set just a week before, on September 13, when the same Binance hot wallet spent 388 Ethereum. However, the number of transactions conducted during that prior spike was notably higher than the figures observed in the current scenario. In fact, the wallet subsequently handled a remarkable 710,638 daily transactions, nearly reaching its all-time high of 959,000, achieved on December 9, 2022.
The remarkable nature of this spike is evident when considering that gas fees for this specific hot wallet typically remain below 3 Ethereum. Although Binance has yet to release an official statement, recent reports suggest that the cryptocurrency exchange may have conducted a wallet aggregation process during a period of low gas fees to enhance the security of user funds.
This surge in activity has sparked discussions about Binance's capabilities, especially considering the exchange's ongoing legal battle with US authorities. Notably, Binance's CEO, CZ, recently refuted reports suggesting he received a $250 million loan from BAM Management, the holding entity of Binance.US . Instead, CZ asserted that he provided the loan funds to BAM.
In recent days, Binance announced its intent to further collaborate with law enforcement agencies to enhance global crime prevention and investigation capabilities. Additionally, the cryptocurrency exchange received an invitation from the Hong Kong police to participate in the 2023 International Symposium on Cyber Policing.
