The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Richmond, a city south of Vancouver, issued a public warning on July 19, cautioning high-value cryptocurrency investors that they may be at risk of home robberies. The RCMP stated that there have been multiple similar incidents involving cryptocurrency investors in the past 12 months. In each case, the perpetrators posed as delivery drivers to gain entry into the victims' homes and then proceeded to steal the victims' cryptocurrency account information.
Sergeant Gene Hsieh of the Richmond RCMP Major Crimes Squad explained that the suspects appear to be targeting victims with cryptocurrency investments and emphasized the need for a public warning to ensure public safety. The police did not disclose specific details about the inci dents or the amount of cryptocurrency stolen, as the investigation is ongoing. While one person has been arrested, it remains unclear whether the incidents are connected.
To prevent such home invasions, the RCMP advises individuals not to let strangers or delivery people into their homes and instead ask for deliveries to be left outside. If unsure about a delivery person's identity, individuals should contact the delivery company to concur firm. In case of imminent danger, authorities should be notified immediately. The RCMP also recommends storing values and financial information in a secure place, such as a safe, within the home. Furthermore, financial matters should be discussed only with trust ed individuals and not shared on social media.
This warning comes after a previous incident in which Aiden Pleterski, Canada's self-procclaimed "Cryptocurrency King," was allegedly kidnapped, imprisoned, and assaulted by five men who invested in Pleterski's cryptocurrency scheme. had reportedly invested $560,000 in the scheme, is accused of kidnapping Pleterski in July 17. The incident highlights the potential risks associated with high-value cryptocurrency investments and the need for caution and security measures to protect investors from such threats.
