Author Ernest Cline, along with Dan Farah, the producer of the film adaptation of Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One," have joined forces with Futureverse, an artificial intelligence and virtual universe company, to create a revamped rendition of the popular storyline. Together, they are developing a digital universe inspired by the original narrative.
Forming Readyverse Studios, Cline and Farah are partnering with Futureverse's Shara Senderoff and Aaron McDonald to launch "Readyverse," envisioned as a comprehensive "connected digital experience platform." Futureverse recently unveiled on X (formerly Twitter) that Readyverse Studios has inked an exclusive deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to bring the Ready Player One series solely to the Metaverse and Web3. Furthermore, Readyverse will exclusively hold Web3 rights to all forthcoming intellectual property (IP) from Cline.
Farah, in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, disclosed ongoing discussions with major studios and IP rights holders, exploring potential collaborations within the Readyverse initiative.
Futureverse emphasizes that Readyverse will adhere to the principles of an open metaverse, encompassing aspects like interoperability, security, decentralization, community-owned infrastructure, and demonstrable digital ownership. In 2022, the Web3 platform established the Open Metaverse Alliance to uphold transparency, inclusivity, decentralization, and democratization within the Metaverse. Notable Web3 entities such as Animoca Brands, Dapper Labs, Decentraland, and The Sandbox are among its founding members.
During Korea Blockchain Week 2022, Everyrealm CEO Janine Yorio expressed opinions on the portrayal of the Metaverse in "Ready Player One" as unrealistic. While acknowledging the film's contribution in envisioning life within a virtual universe, Yorio highlighted that many virtual worlds under development are primarily tailored for desktop interfaces rather than virtual reality setups depicted in movies.
