Coinbase's layer 2 blockchain achieved a milestone by surpassing 100,000 daily active users just a day after its official launch. According to data from Dune Analytics on August 10, the platform recorded over 136,000 daily users, marking the highest daily user count since its inception. This surge coincided with the public launch of the network. Notably, approximately 30% of the users on that day were new to Base, totaling around 42,000, compared to over 60,000 new users on July 31.
In a related development, cryptocurrency market data platform CryptoRank shared on August 10 that Coinbase's Base network had secured the fourth position in terms of daily transactions per second among Layer 2 solutions. It trailed behind zkSync Era, Arbitrum, and Optimism. The Base network, often referred to as the start of "on-chain summer," officially launched on August 9.
Originally introduced in beta on February 23, Coinbase's Base network garnered attention due to its potential to introduce more users to the Web3 protocol, leveraging Coinbase's extensive user base. Although a "builders-oriented" version of its mainnet was launched on July 13, the The network's team cautioned that it was not yet fully prepared for general user access.
At present, Base users can engage in various activities such as bridging Ethereum to the Base network, participating in decentralized cryptocurrency exchange, utilizing web-based payment applications, securing a ".base" username, and initiating decentralized autonomous org animations
