Ethereum developers have come together to pay homage to Ganache and Truffle, two vital toolkits that played pivotal roles in the early days of Ethereum smart contracts.
Consensys recently announced the discontinuation of both products and a significant shift toward MetaMask Snap and SDK in a post on September 22. This move marks what many consider "the end of an era" in Ethereum's development, as these tools were foundational. Truffle Suite, in particular, held great significance as it was where many developers wrote their first Ethereum smart contracts.
Truffle Suite, originally launched in 2015, became a part of Consensys in 2020. At the time of acquisition, it was relied upon by 1.3 million developers globally. To ensure a smooth transition to new technology stacks, Consensys will collaborate with HardHat to assist developers in creating and deploying software on the Ethereum network.
MetaMask Snap, a component of Consensys' broader MetaMask wallet, will play a pivotal role in the evolving Ethereum development landscape, enabling third-party developers to build decentralized applications that extend the functionality of the MetaMask wallet. This transition also aligns with Consensys' vision for MetaMask Snap to resemble Apple's App Store in terms of functionality and impact.
