In a bid to transform global food commodity trade and empower farmers, Farmsent, a blockchain platform focused on farmer-centric solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Peaq, a blockchain platform built on the decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN).
Unveiled on April 9, this collaboration signifies a significant advancement in Farmsent's mission to decentralize agricultural supply chains, enhance transparency in global food trade, and establish a direct link between farmers and consumer-facing businesses worldwide within the burgeoning Web3 market.
Farmsent asserts that by harnessing DePIN sensors to monitor product quality and origin, it can eliminate centralized intermediaries, reduce costs for all stakeholders, and ensure transparency throughout the supply chain. Farmsent's Chief Executive Officer, Shusti, deems the use of DePIN particularly promising for agriculture, citing its potential to benefit both farmers and consumers alike.
The integration of DePIN technology enables farmers to acquire a secure digital identity, facilitating better market access and real-time data insights into their crops, including vital details such as soil moisture, pH levels, and humidity. This data empowers farmers to make informed decisions to optimize crop health and yields.
Concurrently, the DePIN system empowers consumers by granting them access to detailed information about the food products they purchase, including insights into farm practices, origins, and cultivation methods. This transparency enables consumers to make informed choices about the food they consume.
The current landscape of global food trade underscores the pressing need for reform. Despite being the backbone of the industry, farmers often receive minimal returns. Farmsent aims to address this disparity by bypassing traditional intermediaries, facilitating direct transactions between farmers and consumers. The platform has already onboarded over 160,000 farmers in Indonesia and Colombia.
While Farmsent's platform is still in beta, it is actively used to track commodities such as coffee, avocados, and palm sugar across multiple countries. Leveraging Peaq's cost-effective data storage and scalability, Farmsent aims to expand its reach and connectivity while ensuring data security and privacy for all stakeholders involved in the agricultural supply chain.
