Tom Lee, a board member of Eightco Holdings, said verified digital credentials will serve as foundational security tools as automated technologies proliferate online. The capital push comes as rapid advancements in AI agents increase the potential for online fraud, deepfakes, automated bot traffic, and synthetic media across digital platforms.
To address these risks, World ID provides a privacy-preserving mechanism that confirms a user is a unique human without collecting or exposing personal identifying information. Users verify their identity at a physical device called an Orb, which performs a one-time biometric check to generate a secure digital credential stored directly on the user’s device.
The protocol relies on zero-knowledge cryptographic proofs and multi-party computation developed by World Foundation. Major digital services and enterprise applications—including Zoom, Docusign, Okta, Vercel, and Tinder—have begun integrating World ID verification tools into their systems. According to company data, more than 39 million individuals have registered on the World Network, with more than 18 million completing Orb verification.
The network has processed more than 475 million identity proofs since launching into production in July 2023. The organization noted that adoption is expected to accelerate alongside the release of World ID 4.0, an enterprise-grade update designed to support high-scale integrations and enable third-party developers to create custom zero-knowledge credentials within the World architecture.
