AI Agents Can Bypass Robinhood’s Stock Token Blocks, Per Coinfello

Robinhood Chain blocks U.S. persons from its tokenized Nvidia and Tesla stock, but the same permissionless network that powers 24/7 trading may let artificial intelligence (AI) agents and third-party wallets route around that block entirely.

Key Takeaways

Robinhood Chain launched July 1, with Stock Tokens blocked for US persons.Experts warns AI agents can bypass front-end geo-blocking through third-party wallets.Robinhood’s Morpho-powered Earn product already serves US customers with 7% APY on the same chain.
A Chain Built for Speed, Not Enforcement

Amid much hype and fanfare, Robinhood Chain went live on July 1. Being built on Arbitrum’s Nitro stack and designed for tokenized real-world assets and round-the-clock trading, it uses a single Robinhood-operated sequencer but with no provision for permissionless fallback. Additionally, the company seemingly has direct control over transaction ordering even as the underlying smart contracts stay open to anyone.

On paper, such amalgamations appear great, but the divide between a restricted product working alongside an open network seems to have alerted many industry personnel, including MinChi Park, co-founder of onchain-agent platform Coinfello. She believes front-end blocking is a weak substitute for real enforcement, adding:

Front-end geo-blocking protects the issuer. It does much less to protect the user. Here is the test: if a restriction disappears the moment a user opens a third-party wallet, it was never a compliance mechanism. It was a liability shield.

The Eligibility Split Already Exists

Robinhood’s own product lineup shows how uneven that enforcement already is because while Stock Tokens stay off-limits to U.S. persons, Robinhood Earn (a Morpho-powered lending product that pays roughly 7% APY on USDG) began rolling out to eligible U.S. customers on the same chain starting early last month.

The Earn launch reaches into Robinhood’s base of 27.7 million funded customers holding $377 billion in platform assets, meaning a U.S. user can lend into a Morpho vault on Robinhood Chain while remaining locked out of the tokenized Nvidia shares sitting one click away in the same wallet. Park argues that split isn’t a rollout hiccup Robinhood will smooth over later, noting:

Regulation attaches to the wrapper, while composability attaches to the asset. Those two things are now pulling in opposite directions on the same chain.

Each product carries its own issuer and jurisdictional perimeter, but the moment a restricted token becomes collateral in a lending market or gets routed through an aggregator, that perimeter starts to leak.

Where AI Agents Complicate the Picture

However, experts are concerned that agents strip away the technical friction that used to double as an informal safeguard. In other words, a non-custodial agent that routes anyone into anything cannot be looked at as a neutral entity but a bypass mechanism with good UX.

Reaching a restricted contract directly used to require finding the address, understanding the code, and managing keys by hand, a skill barrier that kept most restricted products away from most restricted users. An agent that converts a plain-language request into a multi-step contract call removes that barrier without ever taking custody of a user’s assets, which Park says makes the custody question beside the point.

What Real Enforcement Would Look Like

One fix could be to move eligibility checks into the asset itself rather than leaving them in an app’s settings. That means restrictions encoded directly in the token contract, in a form wallets and agents can read and respect programmatically, plus agents that surface a disclosure the moment they act rather than routing around a rule they can technically read.
