The Digital Power Network (DPN), a new alliance associated with the Digital Chamber of Commerce, has emerged as the representative body for cryptocurrency miners in Washington, DC This network has garnered significant support from some of the largest miners in the United States.
DPN is closely affiliated with the Digital Chamber of Commerce, and many of its team members share roots with the Chamber's Mining Initiative. Notably, the Mining Initiative introduced the first pro-proof-of-work resolution in the US House of Representatives. This resolution , filed by Texas Representative Pete Sessions in March, highlights the crucial role of Bitcoin mining in enhancing America's energy independence.
The DPN enters the scene with 11 prominent members: Argo, BitDigital, BitFarms, Coinmint, Cipher Mining, DigitHost, Hive, Marathon, Riot, Sustainable Bitcoin Protocol, and Terawulf. Together, these entities represent over 50% of all US Bitcoin hashrate. DPN, which stands for Hashrate, has a mission centered on shaping digital asset mining policies and influencing the future of energy policy. Their aim is to bring innovation to energy markets by championing Bitcoin and blockchain technology.
However, the path for DPN is not without challenges. Congressman Sessions' resolution followed the reintroduction of a bill in Congress in March, which proposed an investigation by the Environmental Protection Agency into cryptocurrency miners. Additionally, the Biden administration initially included a 30% tax on electricity used by crypto miners in its fiscal 2024 budget, although this proposal may have been discarded.
In its efforts, DPN intends to collaborate with the Digital Energy Council, a lobbying organization established in August by former Chamber of Commerce energy policy director Thomas Mapes.
