Twitter, now known as X, is continuing its evolution towards becoming an all-encompassing app as Elon Musk tested video game streaming on the platform. In a 50-minute livestream on October 6, Musk demonstrated himself playing the popular online action role-playing game Diablo 4. During the stream, Musk expressed his goal for the feature: "The goal is that the audio sounds normal, the image looks pretty good so it doesn't flicker, and the commentary works."
While it's still in the early stages of development, the quality of the live streams remained consistent, and Musk appeared pleased with the progress made by the developers. Toward the end of the live broadcast, Musk answered questions from viewers and shed more light on Goal X.
"We're going to add streaming capabilities to Xbox and PS5. We're not trying to outperform specialized apps, but we want to offer the option to do it within X system or X platform," he explained. He added, "I think very specialized apps can still excel in many ways, but we can be the best generalist app. Being a generalist app is great for exploring the world and connecting with the most people; there's value in that."
Musk, however, did not disclose any details about payments or the integration of cryptocurrencies with streaming subscriptions or donations. This move generated significant interest, with the livestream drawing 2.8 million viewers shortly after the event, and the accompanying tweet amassing 9.3 million views and over 5,300 retweets. Twitter's transformation into X has brought forth features like a revenue-sharing model for X Premium subscribers and the ability for users to publish videos and content directly on the platform.
