Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk is reportedly drawing up plans to create an artificial intelligence (AI) startup to compete with ChatGPT maker OpenAI, the most popular generative artificial intelligence he co-founded in 2015. One of the smart companies.
The announcement comes after news surfaced that Musk was building a team of artificial intelligence researchers and engineers, according to the Financial Times. While Musk left the OpenAI board in 2018, the creation of the new AI startup will see him join other tech giants like Google and Microsoft in building the next generation of AI. The report suggests that Musk is in talks with existing SpaceX and Tesla investors about investing in the upcoming artificial intelligence venture. "A bunch of people are investing in it . it's real and they're excited about it," the FT source added.
The alleged findings add to a more recent report on April 12, in which an anonymous source revealed that Musk procured nearly 10,000 graphics processing units to power Twitter's artificial intelligence plans. On March 9, Musk formed a company called X (X.AI) and listed himself as the company's sole director. In addition, Musk also changed the name of Twitter to "X Corp" in company filings as part of his plan to create a "universal app" under the "X" brand.
In contrast, Musk and more than 2,600 technology leaders and researchers signed an open letter on March 30 urging a temporary halt to further AI development, fearing "profound risks to society and humanity". Another tech giant joining the AI race is Amazon Web Services (AWS). The Amazon Bedrock initiative will allow AWS users to build generative AI from foundational models.
