Tech giant Google has recently integrated Ethereum Name Service (ENS) data into its search results, utilizing data provided by Etherscan. This move marks a significant step in making blockchain information more accessible to mainstream users. Former ENS core team member Brantly Millegan was among the first to notice the update and shared the news on social media platforms.
The integration allows users to search for ENS addresses, such as Vitalik.eth, and view details like Ether balance and transaction history directly in Google search results. This streamlined access to blockchain data eliminates the need to navigate to external platforms like Etherscan, enhancing user convenience.
ENS, akin to traditional domain name systems, enables the use of human-readable names for complex wallet addresses on the internet. For instance, instead of sharing a long and intricate wallet address, users can utilize an ENS address like yourname.eth, making transactions more user-friendly and accessible.
Google's involvement in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology has been steadily growing. In May 2023, the company introduced native support for Ethereum wallet balances in search results. Initially, users could search for specific public addresses to view wallet balances, and now, this functionality has been extended to include ENS domains.
Additionally, Google's evolving cryptocurrency advertising policy reflects its commitment to embracing digital assets. In 2023, the company revised its policy to include "cryptocurrency trusts," allowing products like Bitcoin ETFs from prominent asset managers to appear in search results. Moreover, collaborations like the partnership between ENS and domain registrar GoDaddy aim to further integrate Web3 technologies, empowering users with greater control over their decentralized identities.
