Blockchain security firm Peckshield has reported that roughly $8 million in BitKeep user funds were stolen via a hacked APK version of the crypto wallet.
The BitKeep team confirmed the breach on its official Telegram account, saying that hackers hijacked some APK package downloads, resulting in the loss of funds for its users. As the hack continues, the BitKeep team urges its users to move funds to wallets from official sources such as Google Play and the Apple App Store. In addition to this, the team also asked community members to use newly created wallet addresses, as their previous addresses may have been "leaked to hackers." To assist in the investigation, the BitKeep team is asking affected users to submit relevant materials through the Google form they provided.
BitKeep further advises its users to create new wallet addresses, as hackers may still be able to access addresses created through compromised APKs. The team asked affected users to submit their details to a Google form, adding that if the theft was the platform's fault, it will be fully reimbursed.
BitKeep said hackers had moved most of the funds to a wallet address on Binance Smart Chain (BSC). The cryptocurrency firm added that it is seeking help to freeze the hackers' addresses and retrieve the stolen funds.
Peckshield reported that the stolen assets included 4,373 BNB ($1.06 million), $5.4 million in USDT, $196,000 in DAI, and 1,233.21 ETH ($1.5 million).
