Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, appears to have reacted strongly to comments from fans criticizing the blockchain's roadmap and comparing it to Ethereum. Responding to these remarks, Hoskinson mentioned that "it's become delusional now" and that many people seem to be preoccupied with Cardano, stating "in most people's minds, we live rent-free. I pity them." He also expressed his thoughts on Ethereum, claiming that it has a problematic consensus layer and programming model, and is struggling with its own layer 2 ecosystem.
Hoskinson defended Cardano's sidechain initiative, emphasizing that it benefits both the platform and sidechains. The Cardano Foundation had introduced the Hydra research paper in March 2020, proposing a layer 2 solution called Hydra to offload transactions from the main network through sidechains. Hoskinson indicated that Cardano is on track to become one of the fastest systems globally, illustrating that simulations show each "Hydra head" can process around 1,000 transactions per second, potentially leading to a throughput of up to 1 million transactions per second.
While the Hydra project is still in development and a launch date has not been confirmed, a mainnet-compatible Hydra node is scheduled to launch on May 11, 2023. Developers have also teased the upcoming launch of Hydra Pay, which integrates with Cardano wallets and offers instant settlement with high throughput. Despite these advancements, current data from Cardanoscan indicates that the blockchain is processing around 65,000 transactions per day, or approximately 0.75 transactions per second. Comparatively, Ethereum processed over 1 million transactions in the past 24 hours, averaging around 12.45 transactions per second.
In a previous tweet, Hoskinson reaffirmed Cardano's resilience, stating that regardless of declarations from venture capitalists, crypto media, or the general public about the platform's demise, irrelevance, or failure, Cardano remains steadfast and enduring
