Web3 game publisher Immutable recently introduced a new wallet infrastructure, the "Immutable Passport," as announced on December 19. This novel login system enables users to set up and recover their wallets using their Google or Apple accounts, or an email address.
At its inception, Immutable Passport has been integrated into five games and applications: Gods Unchained, Blocklete Golf, B/R Watch 2 Earn, TokenTrove, and AtomicHub. These applications collectively boast over 500,000 users. Additionally, Immutable is launching a user dashboard that appears upon logging in. This dashboard is designed to simplify the gaming experience, allowing users to discover new games, manage funds, link external wallets, and organize all in-game items in one convenient location.
A consumer study published by Immutable in August revealed that gamers are twice as likely to register for a wallet using Immutable Passport compared to traditional wallets. In a detailed discussion in May, Immutable elaborated on how Passport secures user funds, especially when signed up via email. It utilizes the Magic Software Development Kit to create a private key upon the user's first login. This key is then encrypted and stored in the Amazon Web Services Hardware Security Module (HSM), inaccessible to both Immutable and Magic. Access to the HSM is regulated through a unique token sent to the user's email, making Passport a "non-custodial" login option that doesn't require users to place their trust in Immutable with their funds.
Immutable's introduction of the Passport wallet is part of its ongoing effort to enhance the user experience in Web3 gaming. On December 11, the company integrated Transak as a new payment method for its game. Furthermore, on December 13, it announced plans to offer gasless transactions on its zkEVM platform starting in 2024, marking another step towards user-friendly Web3 gaming.
