Immutable Games Studio announced the new partnership in a March 6 announcement. Top game development studio Mineloader has produced AAA titles such as The Last of Us Part 1 for TV, which is currently streaming on HBO. It also has a hand in the wildly popular Final Fantasy series.
The duo will be working on the Guild of Guardians role-playing game (RPG) for release in 2023. Mineloader's extensive experience in game creation with game studios such as Ubisoft, Square Enix, EA, and Sony will "boost the development process and improve the overall quality of Guild of Guardians," it states. Immutable Games Chief Studio Officer Justin Hulog stated that the Mineloader team shares the same vision for the future of Web3 gaming, adding:
"We're confident we'll be able to deliver the amazing mobile gaming experience that Guild of Guardians and the gaming community deserve."
The move marks a shift in the gaming franchise from Web2 to Web3. Mineloader, the Guild of Guardians' Web2 development partner, will "enhance the game's core game loop and art, as well as new content."
The company will also assist with various elements of the in-game economy, particularly Web2-centric aspects. However, Web3 components will be primarily driven by Immutable, which is already an industry leader in this area. Guild of Guardians is one of the most anticipated Web3 games of 2023 with over 1 million pre-registrations. However, the role-playing game isn't expected to release until the last quarter of the year.
Immutable cut 11% of its workforce last month to extend its cash reserves. Immutable’s native token, IMX, was up 5% on the day’s announcement. As a result, the token is trading at $1.11 at the time of writing, according to CoinGecko.
Additionally, IMX gained an impressive 15% over the past week, while the cryptocurrency market generally retreated.
However, IMX is still 88% below its November 2021 peak of $9.52. The growth of the Web3 gaming industry and the return of the bull market should do well for IMX.
