Indonesia's vice-presidential hopeful, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, has expressed a commitment to bolstering the nation's talent pool within the blockchain and cryptocurrency spheres, aiming to open up more opportunities for the country's youth.
As the incumbent mayor of Solo, Indonesia, Gibran Gibran articulated during a political rally that his party aims to create avenues for young individuals within the digital domain. He emphasized the importance of nurturing upcoming talents equipped with the requisite skills for the future.
The digital-focused initiatives encompass a broad spectrum, including ventures into blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. Gibran outlined plans to cultivate experts in blockchain, cryptocurrency, and cybersecurity. Furthermore, he highlighted the intention to groom professionals specializing in artificial intelligence and digital marketing.
Gibran, the eldest son of Indonesia's current President Joko Widodo, was chosen as the running mate for Indonesian Defense Minister and presidential contender Prabowo Subianto on October 23. At 36 years old, Gibran is vying for the vice president's role, a position to be determined in Indonesia's upcoming general election scheduled to commence on February 14, 2024.
Indonesia, recognized as an emerging hub for Web3 technology, is poised to intensify efforts in promoting cryptocurrencies in 2023, despite a previous ban on crypto payments. In a crackdown on May 28, the Indonesian government took action against tourists engaged in cryptocurrency transactions, stating that strict measures, including deportation or legal repercussions, would be imposed. Later, on July 21, the country introduced a national cryptocurrency exchange under local regulatory supervision. According to Indonesian authorities, this platform will serve as the sole authorized space for digital asset trading within the country.
