Members of the Internet Computer community have pledged to donate nearly $80 million worth of Internet Computer tokens, furthering the decentralization of protocols within the ecosystem. This commitment, totaling over 6.5 million protocols, underscores the collaborative effort facilitated by the Internet Computer's Serving Nervous System (SNS) framework, enabling protocols to evolve into decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs).
Several ICP projects and decentralized applications (dapps) have benefited from funds distributed through the SNS decentralization process. These include OpenChat, a decentralized communication tool, Dragginz, a Metaverse platform, Kinic, a blockchain search engine, Hot or Not, dubbed "Web3 TikTok," Ghost, the first ICP memecoin, Modclub, a decentralized Verification-as-a-service platform, BOOM DAO, a blockchain gaming platform, and Catalyze, a social dapp. Lomesh Dutta, Vice President of Growth at DFINITY, lauded the success of the SNS Framework, emphasizing its role in advancing decentralized governance globally.
The DFINITY Foundation also reported a significant uptick in blockchain gaming activity on the Internet Computer network, attributed to lower transfer fees and improved scalability. Moreover, the foundation allocated $6.25 million in ecosystem grants to 239 projects across 41 countries in 2023, fostering the development of the ICP ecosystem. The overall network usage of ICP witnessed a remarkable 121% year-over-year growth, indicating sustained expansion across the ecosystem.
Decentralized finance (DeFi) activity on the Internet Computer has experienced steady growth, with the total value locked surging by 24% since January 1 to reach $27 million, according to DefiLlama. The recent surge in ICP price follows the network's advancements in artificial intelligence, as announced on March 22. Highlighting the significance of AI in the web3, multi-chain landscape, the development underscores ICP's positioning as a leader in technological innovation. Despite recent gains, ICP's price remains below its all-time high of $700 in May 2021, indicating room for further growth and adoption.
