Since its inception three years ago, Stepn, a popular mobile money-making game built on the Solana blockchain, has expanded its reach with new social apps and tokens. FSL, the gaming and development studio behind Stepn, unveiled Stepn Go on May 23, a social lifestyle app that incentivizes daily movement and social interaction. Users can now share their digital sneakers with friends and family who join the app and participate in revenue sharing. Stepn Go also incorporates social features such as adding friends, messaging, avatars, and additional gaming options, allowing players to earn rewards in the form of GMT tokens.
To enhance user experiences, Stepn Go introduces a new token called the Go Game Token (GGT), alongside Stepn's existing utility token, the Green Satoshi Token (GST). Both tokens can be earned through physical activities like walking, jogging, and running while wearing digital sneakers. Additionally, FSL has released the StepN Go white paper. The original Stepn app, launched in 2021, stands as one of the largest mobile money-making games globally and a trailblazer in gamified Web3 fitness applications.
Stepn operates on a dual-token system, featuring the GST as an unlimited supply utility token and the Green Metaverse Token (GMT) as its governance token. Yawn Rong, co-founder of FSL, expressed excitement about the new social features integrated into Stepn Go, responding to community demands since the app's inception. Rong outlined plans to introduce player-versus-player elements alongside existing mechanics like Haus and interactive maps, aiming to propel Stepn Go towards mainstream adoption.
Despite a downturn in 2022 and 2023, the GameFi sector, combining gaming and decentralized finance (DeFi), has experienced a resurgence amid rising cryptocurrency values. Over the past year, GameFi's daily active wallet count has doubled, indicating renewed interest and engagement. Stepn has also bolstered its activity, forging partnerships such as with German sportswear giant Adidas to launch 1,000 Genesis Edition non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Solana in April. Additionally, Stepn initiated an airdrop of 100 million FSL points, valued at approximately US$30 million, to reward its dedicated player base.
