Former peer-to-peer file-sharing platform turned non-fungible token marketplace LimeWire has launched a new game that aims to revive the nostalgia for music piracy with the added bonus of crypto rewards. On April 13, the long-established music download platform popular in the early 2000s was revived and turned to Web3 in the form of a retro music download game themed on the Microsoft Windows XP operating system.
Players need to enter their email address to play a browser-based game that prompts them to search for old music and movies from the early 2000s to download.
The simulation presents a list of songs or movies from that era for the player to choose to "download" for a limited time. Each simulated download that does not contain a simulated "virus" earns the player points. Scores enter a leaderboard, with top-ranked players eligible for a distribution of LimeWire's upcoming ERC-20 token, LMWR.
Relaunching in mid-2022 as an NFT marketplace, LimeWire aims to be the leading creator content marketplace and membership platform.
The original file-sharing platform was shut down following a federal copyright infringement court case in 2010, and LimeWire NFT Marketplace has no affiliation with the original platform or its team.
