After over eight years at the helm, Adrien Treccani, the CEO of Metaco, a blockchain hosting company owned by Ripple Labs, has departed from the company. According to Reuters' report on February 12, Treccani is no longer serving as the CEO of Metaco, the Swiss firm he founded back in 2015. His LinkedIn profile, as of the time of reporting, indicated his departure from the company in 2023. Ripple's acquisition of Metaco in May 2023 for $250 million aimed to bolster its custody, issuance, and settlement services for tokenized assets.
A spokesperson from Ripple expressed gratitude for Treccani's contributions, acknowledging the robust custody business and leadership he provided in integrating the custody team and solutions with Ripple following the acquisition last year.
The legal battle between Ripple and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been closely watched within the cryptocurrency community. The SEC filed a lawsuit against Ripple in December 2020, alleging the offering of unregistered securities. The outcome of this case is anticipated to have implications for national digital asset regulation and policy.
In a significant development in July 2023, a federal judge ruled in favor of Ripple, granting summary judgment and asserting that a token is merely a security when sold to institutional investors. However, the case is poised to proceed to a jury trial, which is expected to take place sometime in 2024.
