In a landmark move, a long-hidden treasure from young Michael Jackson's early career—a studio recording kept under wraps for over fifty years—will finally see the light of day. Scheduled for release on December 7, this historic song titled “Big Boy (One-Derful Version)” will emerge as a "digital vinyl record" through a blockchain-based platform.
The exclusive track will be digitally released via Anotherblock, a blockchain music platform. Accessible through the platform’s player, the release will include images of the original master tape and song stem. The song will be available in both open and limited editions, with the limited edition available for a brief period of 4 days.
Originating from a studio session on July 13, 1967, the recording captures the youthful talent of 8-year-old Michael Jackson during his early musical endeavors with his siblings at Chicago's One-Derful studios.
This groundbreaking release materialized through a collaboration between Recordpool, a record label owner, and Anotherblock, a Swedish-based blockchain music and royalty marketplace. Renowned for its partnerships with major artists such as Rihanna, The Weeknd, and Justin Bieber, Anotherblock's CEO and co-founder, Michel Traore, expressed the significance of releasing the song as a digital vinyl on the blockchain platform.
Traore highlighted the essence of building narratives and communities around the music, transforming it beyond a mere commodity. He emphasized the value of providing a unique space for exceptional songs like “Big Boy (One-Derful Version)” in the vast landscape of music releases, aiming to generate captivating stories around the music through this innovative format.
Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson, conveyed her excitement about the album, expressing how recordings of their musical heritage find new relevance in the digital era. She underlined the timelessness of the Jackson family's musical legacy and the significance of preserving it in the evolving landscape of music ownership. Traore sees this release as a step toward revolutionizing digital ownership within the music industry, setting the stage for a new chapter in the Jackson family's musical journey.
