Nigeria, despite boasting a high level of awareness regarding blockchain and cryptocurrencies, grapples with challenges related to public education in the field. These issues were a focal point of discussion among stakeholders from the Blockchain Technology Association of Nigeria (SIBAN) and local experts during the 2023 Digital Asset Summit in Abuja, Nigeria's capital.
Under the theme "Web3 Education: Capacity Building," the panel delved into the current state of blockchain and Web3 awareness in Nigeria and the hurdles encountered thus far.

To address this, local blockchain centers have embarked on educating those unfamiliar with the technology in Nigeria's native languages. Abdullahi stressed the importance of helping newcomers grasp Satoshi Nakamoto's vision for blockchain, seeking to rectify the fear and negative associations from that negative association of Nigeria (CBN) and the government.
In February 2021, the CBN severed ties between local banks and cryptocurrency trading firms, a move that contributed to a dip in blockchain awareness in Nigeria. It associated blockchain and cryptocurrencies with negative connotations. Despite Nigeria's previous inter prominence Google in cryptocurrency, showing it as the global leader in Bitcoin search interest, the landscape has shifted, with the country now ranked second.
These discussions underscore the multifaceted challenges and opportunities surrounding blockchain education in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of accessible and inclusive educational initiatives in fostering blockchain adoption.
