OpenAI has rolled out an enhanced iteration of GPT-4 Turbo, a pivotal component powering the conversational capabilities of ChatGPT. This upgraded version promises more natural interactions, catering to premium users subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, Team, or Enterprise plans.
The latest model, named "gpt-4-turbo-2024-04-09," boasts improvements across various domains, including writing, mathematics, logical reasoning, coding, and an updated knowledge base. Trained on data available up to December 2023, this version surpasses its predecessors, which were limited to material up to April 2023. OpenAI emphasizes that interactions with ChatGPT using the new GPT-4 Turbo will yield more direct, concise, and conversational responses.
While the upgrade aims to enhance conversational fluidity, it may pose challenges for writers striving to maintain authenticity amidst the rise of AI-generated content. A recent incident involving the word "delve" sparked debate, as co-founder of Y Combinator, Paul Graham, speculated that its use in an email indicated AI assistance. This sparked discussions on linguistic diversity and potential job implications for non-native English writers.
In addition to GPT-4 Turbo's enhancement, OpenAI recently introduced new models in its API, including GPT-4 Turbo with Vision, integrating image understanding capabilities. Furthermore, OpenAI quietly updated the training dataset for GPT-4 Turbo, effective from December 2023, with the goal of curbing model "laziness" among developers.
Moreover, OpenAI has removed the account requirement for accessing ChatGPT-3.5, aiming to streamline user experience and democratize AI access. As of April 1, users can interact with ChatGPT without registering, although this means foregoing the ability to store interaction history for non-account holders.
