OpenAI has launched the official version of its artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT on Apple's App Store, and has hinted that an Android version is "coming soon."
ChatGPT and advances in artificial intelligence have become a major point of interest in the crypto community, some of whom have leveraged the emerging technology to create entirely new tokens. According to a May 18 announcement, the ChatGPT app syncs user chat his story with its web version and features voice input powered by OpenAI's speech recognition model Whisper.
OpenAI says it's rolling out the app for iPhone and iPad users in the United States and will expand to other countries "in the coming weeks." As the AI adoption race rages on, some of Apple's 2 billion active devices will roll out globally, giving access to OpenAI's chatbot applications.
For months, AI enthusiasts have been experimenting with ChatGPT's capabilities on their mobile devices, many of them resorting to some relatively complex workarounds to try and integrate the chatbot with the iPhone's virtual assistant, Siri.
By far, one of the easiest ways to access OpenAI's software on a mobile device is to use Microsoft's Bing app, which provides access to the company's GPT-4-based chatbot. Google's new Bard is currently ChatGPT's biggest competitor, but it's not yet released as a mobile app version. Both Apple's App Store and the Google Play Store have been flooded with apps claiming to offer services similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT; some have reportedly turned out to be knockoffs, charging subscription fees even higher than ChatGPT itself.
Existing ChatGPT Plus subscribers will be able to use GPT-4 features and get early access to updated features and faster response times on their iOS devices.
