OpenAI has announced its plans to launch an Android version of the popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, following its release to iOS users in May. The company revealed the launch in a tweet and provided a pre-order page on the Google Play store for users to sign up and install the app once it becomes available. OpenAI has been working on enhancing the security and transparency of its tools, implementing measures such as content watermarking to address concerns of AI-generated misinformation. The Android app is said to have improved security measures compared to the web version and will include features like cross-device conversation history sync, similar to the iOS version.
With the introduction of Android and iOS apps, OpenAI is directly competing with Microsoft's Bing Chat, which also utilizes OpenAI's GPT-4 technology. These applications offer an alternative to testing large language models without relying on a web browser. The launch coincides with Google' s release of its Bard chatbot in the European Union and Brazil, while other competitors like Anthropic's Claude 2 assistant are emerging, boasting superior performance compared to OpenAI's paid version of ChatGPT. In June, ChatGPT experienced a drop in traffic, the first decline since its initial launch.
The crypto community has shown widespread acceptance of ChatGPT and other AI chatbots, with some even utilizing the technology for the development of new tokens. OpenAI's move to expand the availability of ChatGPT to Android users further demonstrates the increasing interest and demand for AI -powered chatbot services in various sectors and industries.
