Revolut, a prominent fintech firm and global neobank, has discreetly ventured into the cryptocurrency realm by introducing a dedicated cryptocurrency trading platform tailored for UK retail customers. The platform, dubbed Revolut X, made its debut on May 7, with a targeted approach towards a specific customer segment. Positioned to rival major cryptocurrency exchanges, Revolut X aims to provide users with convenient access and levy minimal fees, as outlined in a press release shared by Cointelegraph.
Revolut X boasts straightforward features for seamless conversion between fiat currencies like British Pounds and cryptocurrencies, facilitating ease of use for traders. Notably, the platform offers a competitive fee structure, featuring a 0% flat fee for market makers and a 0.09% flat fee for takers, irrespective of trading volume. This pricing model is poised to challenge the competitive edge of existing platforms.
Leonid Bashlykov, head of crypto trading products at Revolut, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, deeming the new crypto product a potential game-changer for seasoned traders. He emphasized that competitive fees and streamlined entry and exit processes are pivotal aspects that experienced traders seek in a cryptocurrency platform.
Initially, Revolut X will support trading in over 100 cryptocurrencies, including popular options such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Ripple, with plans for further expansion in the pipeline. While the platform caters to experienced cryptocurrency traders, any UK user with a retail account can access Revolut X via desktop using their existing credentials, seamlessly transitioning between the platform and their Revolut account to conduct transactions without additional fees or restrictions.
Revolut's foray into the cryptocurrency space marks a strategic shift towards bolstering its presence in this burgeoning sector. This initiative follows the launch of Revolut Ramp in March 2024, a service enabling users to directly purchase cryptocurrencies into their Web3 wallets through a collaboration with MetaMask developer Consensys. Despite previous regulatory challenges leading to the scaling back of cryptocurrency offerings in the UK and US, Revolut's renewed focus underscores its commitment to catering to the evolving needs of cryptocurrency enthusiasts within its user base.
