A federal judge has granted former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, also known as SBF, the ability to access his legal team outside of prison, provided that he provides sufficient notice in advance. The order, filed on August 23 in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, allows SBF to review evidentiary material related to his criminal case in a courthouse cell. However, this access must be coordinated with prosecutors and the US Marshals Service, with a 48-hour notice.

SBF, who was extradited from the Bahamas in December 2022 to face trial in the United States, was released on $250 million bail. However, his bail was revoked on August 11 after he was charged with witness intimidation, leading to his injury. SBF is facing 12 criminal charges that will be divided into two trials, scheduled to commence in October 2023 and March 2024. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
