Seamless Protocol is set to introduce an Integrated Liquidity Market (ILM) on Lido for Wrapped Staked Ethereum (wstETH), presenting lending solutions to token holders seeking alternatives to traditional re-staking methods. Through ILM, stakers on Lido will have the opportunity to automatically deploy lending strategies and compound positions on wstETH, potentially boosting user rewards by reinvesting returns from staking Ethereum.
The distinguishing factor of ILM lies in the sophistication of its investment strategy compared to conventional remortgaging. Unlike re-staking, which simply reinvests staked ETH to earn additional rewards without employing advanced automated strategies, ILM continuously manages users' funds, allowing for low-collateral borrowing within the platform. This on-chain lending mechanism serves various purposes, catering to traders seeking leverage or liquidity, as well as long-term investors, and operates under the premise of single-purpose loans to ensure transparency and purpose-specific liquidity usage.
By executing borrowing strategies on-chain within smart contracts, Seamless ensures complete visibility for liquidity providers regarding the utilization of funds. This approach not only mitigates risks but also reduces collateral requirements, striking a balance between risk exposure and collateralization levels. According to Daryl Hok, a representative from Seamless, community-driven governance plays a pivotal role in shaping ILM strategies, with proposals and voting mechanisms enabling stakeholders to influence protocol enhancements and market expansions.
Seamless Protocol, underpinning the Base network, was launched in mid-2023 by a collaborative effort involving developers from Seashell, RNG Labs, and Loreum Labs, along with contributions from notable entities like Uniswap, Aave, Ampleforth, and CertiK. Presently, the protocol boasts a Total Value Locked (TVL) of $41.91 million, with over $20 million borrowed on-chain since January, as reported by DefiLlama. Despite the potential benefits offered by staking and participation in decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, token holders are reminded of associated risks such as smart contract vulnerabilities, market volatility, and regulatory uncertainties.
