Shytoshi Kusama, the lead developer of Shiba Inu, has responded to Coinbase's Onchain Summer event by pointing out similarities between the exchange's activity and an idea initially proposed by the Shiba Inu community. This comes after Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong's tweet that stated, "If it's not a shadow cat, it's a copycat," referring to the Shiba Inu project's "ShibaSwap" logo featuring a Shiba Inu dog.
Coinbase is gearing up to launch its Ethereum layer 2 solution called Base on August 9. Armstrong emphasized that Base aims to expand blockchain adoption by providing tools for developing various Web3 products. To celebrate the Base mainnet launch, Coinbase introduced the Onchain Summer program, set to start on August 9. This initiative, featuring art, music, and games, has received mixed responses from the Shiba Inu community.
Notably, the Shiba Inu project had earlier launched its own event called "Summer of Shibarium" as a prelude to the mainnet launch of its layer 2 scaling solution. Kusama hinted that Coinbase's Onchain Summer seems to have drawn inspiration from Shiba Inu's activities, although the specifics of the events differ.
The Summer of Shibarium event is already in progress, with several releases unveiled by the Shiba Inu team in preparation for the Shibarium mainnet launch. Among the recent developments are the release of Shibarium Beta Bridge and Shibarium YouTube, showcasing the project's ongoing progress.
It's worth noting that the exchange between Shytoshi Kusama and Coinbase's activity underscores the interconnectedness and inspiration that various projects in the cryptocurrency space can draw from each other's developments and ideas.
