The Starknet Foundation has moved swiftly to address speculation surrounding the impending launch of its native STRK ecosystem token by revealing an early version of its distribution portal through screenshots.
Ahead of the official announcement on social media, the Foundation provided details, clarifying ongoing plans to allocate tokens to selected users, contributors, and investors. In July 2022, the Ethereum Layer 2 scaling network had outlined initial intentions for the Starknet token design.
Labeled as "draft plans under development," the screenshots that surfaced online showcase ongoing development of the distribution mechanism. A spokesperson from StarkWare informed that the company intends to disclose specifics regarding the official standard and token supply mechanism for STRK once finalized:
"Previous deadlines determining token distribution or eligibility are no longer applicable, and current activities will not impact eligibility in any manner."
Additionally, StarkWare highlighted the importance for community members to remain vigilant against scams exploiting uncertainties about the STRK token distribution. Several screenshots shared online hinted at potential requirements for receiving STRK tokens, suggesting eligibility for GitHub developers, early Ethereum adopters and stakers, and Starkex users under specific conditions. However, this information appears to conflict with StarkWare's initial distribution plan from 2022.
In its preliminary disclosure, StarkWare mentioned the off-chain minting of 10 billion STRK tokens, explicitly disclaiming any representation of equity stake or participation in the company.
As per the initial plan, distribution details were outlined: 17% allocated to StarkWare investors, 32.9% to core contributors (including employees, consultants, and development partners), and the remaining 50.1% held by the Starknet Foundation for distribution across various entities.
Starknet has reiterated its commitment to prioritize developers of core infrastructure, decentralized applications (DApps), and other contributors involved in enhancing ecosystem security.
