A state-subsidized Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) company recently announced the launch of "Spark Model," an AI system designed to compete directly with OpenAI's ChatGPT.
The company iFlytek unveiled the new system at a tech event called "Spark Desk" held in Hefei, where it fully demonstrated the capabilities of the new system. Liu Qingfeng, iFLYTEK founder and president, told attendees that the Spark model also known as the " cognitive big model” represented “the dawn of general artificial intelligence,” according to a translation provided by Bing.
While there is no scientific consensus on whether artificial general intelligence (also known as artificial general intelligence or AGI) could use current machine learning techniques, the billionaire tech mogul did provide a comparison with ChatGPT and a timeline of updates: "This year, we will continue to upgrade the big model, and on October 10th, we will surpass ChatGPT in Chinese [language] and reach the same level as it in English."
As of this writing, details on the underlying technology behind Spark's model are scant, but Qingfeng described the AI's capabilities as "far ahead of existing systems in China that can be measured." Without side-by-side benchmarks, it is difficult to make direct comparisons between ChatGPT and similar models. Not only does OpenAI keep training details and other proprietary information secret, but ChatGPT is also banned in China a fact that limits OpenAI's ability to train its models on Chinese language and culture. ina's current ban on ChatGPT has been described as potentially stifling, especially compared to Hong Kong which is a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China where there is no universal ban on the use of technologies such as ChatGPT and cryptocurrencies.
In Hong Kong and across the West, ChatGPT has become increasingly popular with cryptocurrency users and companies for its ability to generate code and as a foundational technology for developing advanced trading bots and portfolio analysis.
If the proposed Spark model upgrade does indeed give iFlytek a leg up on OpenAI and ChatGPT, it would not only represent a landmark moment in technology (ChatGPT is widely regarded as one of the most powerful generative AI systems available today), but It will also Be Completed in a related Perioding of Time.
