The Sui Network, a prominent blockchain platform, is taking a significant step toward simplifying the onboarding process for Web3 applications. It plans to allow users to register for Sui-powered decentralized applications (DApps) without needing to manage external cryptocurrency wallets or mnemonic phrases.
According to a press release issued on September 13 by the Sui Foundation, the new zkLogin (zero-knowledge login) feature will enable users to access DApps using their Google, Facebook, and Twitch login credentials. This approach allows users to log in to decentralized applications in a familiar manner, akin to how they access various online services, without having to deal with the complexities of Web3 wallets.
Greg Siourounis, the Managing Director of the Sui Foundation, highlighted the significance of this development by stating that zkLogin will remove a significant obstacle to bringing the benefits of blockchain-based applications to mainstream users, numbering in the billions.
Onboarding users into the blockchain ecosystem has been a persistent challenge due to various usability issues, such as the need for transaction signing, management of mnemonic phrases, and the complexity of providing extensive, often unfamiliar information when using certain DApps. The Sui Foundation's zkLogin aims to address these issues by allowing users to enjoy the privacy and ownership protection features of blockchain-based applications while maintaining a user-friendly login process.
Zero-knowledge proof technology, which zkLogin relies on, enables a party to prove the truth of an assertion without disclosing additional information beyond confirming the assertion's veracity. This technology ensures both privacy and security in the login process.
The Sui Foundation's initiative aligns with broader efforts in the crypto industry to break down barriers to the widespread adoption of Web3 technology. Other projects and platforms are also exploring ways to make blockchain and decentralized applications more accessible to mainstream users, recognizing that the complexity of traditional onboarding processes can deter potential users.
For example, some cryptocurrency exchanges are developing social media-like applications to simplify interaction with decentralized finance (DeFi) markets, aiming to make the crypto ecosystem more user-friendly. Additionally, new approaches to blockchain gaming and the integration of cryptocurrencies into gaming ecosystems are being explored to attract gamers to the Web3 space.
Innovations such as Telegram trading bots are also simplifying access to new tokens and airdrops, streamlining the process for users within the familiar environment of the Telegram app. These developments collectively aim to reduce friction in onboarding users to the Web3 and blockchain space, ultimately driving broader adoption.
