Tencent Cloud the cloud service provider of Chinese tech giant Tencent — has launched a new digital human creation platform that allows users to create deepfakes of anyone based on three-minute video clips and 100-sentence voice material.
Tencent Cloud's deepfake generator uses Tencent's in-house artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to recreate fake videos of individuals. Deepfake videos are widely used by scammers to mislead investors by impersonating famous people. In 2022, Tesla CEO Elon Musk warns of a growing number of deepfakes impersonating him to promote cryptocurrency scams.
Tencent Cloud's service can self-analyze and train itself on a three-minute video and 100 voice clips to create a convincing deepfake video within 24 hours, local media interface reported. The deepfake creation service costs about 1,000 yuan or $145. News outlet The Register Reportedly confirmed the partnership with Tencent, emphasizing that the service can develop deepfakes in both Chinese and English. Digital human creation provides five styles: 3D realistic, 3D semi-realistic, 3D cartoon, 2D real person and 2D cartoon.
Tencent intends to use the service to host live message advertisements for Chinese crowds. Other applications of deepfakes may include representing "doctors, lawyers and other professionals," according to the interface's report. Meanwhile, other Chinese tech giants including Huawei and Baidu have begun to develop their own versions of generative AI tools to compete with market leader ChatGPT.
As Cointelegraph points out, chat-based large-scale language models could have major applications in the blockchain, such as auditing smart contract code or recommending crypto trading tips for maximum profit.
