On October 12, Uniswap, the largest decentralized cryptocurrency exchange globally by cumulative trading volume, introduced a closed beta Android version of its mobile app. This expansion allows Android users to access Uniswap, joining its existing availability on PCs and iOS devices. Since its inception, Uniswap has processed over $1.7 trillion in transactions, primarily through web-based applications. Previously, the platform launched an iOS mobile app on April 13, but the Android counterpart was absent until now.
The Android beta app features a seamless experience, as it enables users to select coins across different blockchains without requiring them to switch networks manually. It automatically identifies the network on which a specific coin operates and adjusts accordingly. Presently, it supports Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, and BNB Chain, with plans to extend compatibility to more chains in the future.
The app enhances security by routing Ethereum transactions through private pools to mitigate front-running and sandwich attacks. Users can customize their settings and opt-out of this feature if they choose. Moreover, the app automatically identifies most coins with built-in transfer fees, displaying them on the interface to keep users informed.
The announcement coincides with the opening of an email waiting list for early access to the app. Uniswap intends to release the app's open source code in the coming weeks, as part of a Trail of Bits security audit. While Uniswap has made this move to accommodate Android users, it's worth noting that other decentralized exchanges have also introduced mobile wallets. In 2021, 1inch launched its iOS mobile wallet, and later in the year, it released the Android version to provide more accessibility to its users.
