Among cryptocurrency influencers and entrepreneurs, Samson Mow had the highest percentage of fake followers, accounting for 10% of his total Twitter following. Other notable figures, including Jack Dorsey, Nayib Bukele, Vitalik Buterin, Michael Saylor , Changpeng Zhao, and Elon Musk, also had significant numbers of fake followers.
Considering the total number of followers, Elon Musk has over 6.7 million fake accounts following him, indicating the persistence of the problem. Several methods can be employed to identify fake accounts, such as examining the account's creation date, investigating profile pictures, account bios, and tweets, and analyzing the accounts the user is following and followers they have. Recently, Musk called out and labeled the popular Twitter bot "Explain This Bob" as a hoax, resulting in its suspension. Despite ongoing efforts, fake followers continue to pose a challenge on Twitter.
