Vietnamese IT giant Fiat Industrial Technology (FPT) and semiconductor industry leader Nvidia have unveiled plans for a groundbreaking collaboration to establish a $200 million artificial intelligence (AI) facility in Vietnam. This joint endeavor, announced on April 23, aims to create a comprehensive hub for AI and cloud computing solutions within the country, offering a wide array of AI products, GPU infrastructure, technical expertise, and domain knowledge to local customers.
FPT intends to spearhead the investment in an AI factory, positioning it as a "sovereign cloud" facility, while Nvidia will contribute its cutting-edge technology, including AI enterprise software, frameworks, and the Nvidia H100 Tensor Core GPU. The overarching objective is to catalyze Vietnam's transformation into a global AI hub, fostering the accelerated adoption of AI applications not only within Vietnam but also in neighboring nations like Japan and South Korea.
Keith Strier, Nvidia's Vice President of Global Artificial Intelligence, emphasized the profound impact of AI on various sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, climate management, and manufacturing, underscoring its potential to enhance lives and bolster economies worldwide through innovation.
The facility will play a pivotal role in delivering cloud GPU services to FPT Industrial's enterprise clientele, empowering them with enhanced AI capabilities. Moreover, Nvidia's initiatives will extend to educational institutions nationwide, integrating AI projects into curricula, training programs, and laboratory facilities. This educational outreach aims to engage over 30,000 students in AI-related learning experiences in the future.
Nvidia's strategic focus on Vietnam underscores its commitment to nurturing local talent and fostering growth in the AI sector. This initiative builds upon previous milestones, such as the commercial agreements signed between the United States and Vietnam in September 2023, which aimed to bolster cooperation in AI and semiconductor technology, with a particular emphasis on strengthening the semiconductor supply chain. Notable figures from leading technology firms, including Nvidia, Microsoft, and Google, convened at the conference to explore opportunities for collaboration and innovation in the realm of artificial intelligence.
