The developers of one of the first Android-based mobile browsers are working hard to take online communication to the next level by bringing it to Web3.
Sending Labs, a startup focused on decentralized communication protocols, has secured $12.5 million in seed funding to launch a Web3 communication stack.
The mission of the new platform is to build an accessible and secure Web3 communication infrastructure for developers and communities, applying end-to-end decentralization at the core of its product. With the new product, Sending Labs aims to enable privacy-preserving communication and guaranteed transfer of digital asset ownership and community chat.
The seed funding included lead investors including Insignia Venture Partners, MindWorks Capital, and Signum Capital, as well as other participants including K3 Ventures and Lingfeng Innovation Fund.
Sending Labs, which announced its seed round on February 16, also launched its first two messaging products, SendingNetwork and SendingMe. These products, now in beta, are designed to help developers build decentralized social applications and give communities access to encrypted decentralized group chat platforms. These tools allow users to monetize their projects using smart contract payments and transaction protocols through peer-to-peer exchanges, community marketplaces, crowdfunding, airdrops, giveaways, auctions, and more.
“Twitter’s official ban on third-party clients and the inability of millions of FTX users to withdraw assets have brought decentralization and digital asset ownership back into the spotlight,” Sending Labs said in the announcement. Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Sending Labs Executive Joe Yu emphasized that Web3 and decentralized group messaging are the first steps in returning data ownership to users.
Sending Lab founders Yu and Mason Yang previously co-founded MoboTap, the company that developed Dolphin, one of the first Android-based mobile browsers. Voted one of the best iPhone and iPad apps of 2011, the browser has 200 million users in the US, Europe and Japan.
