The global race to artificial intelligence (AI) has attracted new entrants in the past few days, with Twitter and Alibaba reportedly integrating the technology into their businesses. The Chinese giant is developing its own chatbot assistant, while the social media platform is apparently using artificial intelligence to "detect and highlight manipulation of public opinion". It's worth remembering that Twitter CEO Elon Musk recently spearheaded a letter calling for a halt to the development of advanced AI due to societal concerns. As the proverb goes, "If you can't beat your enemies, join them".
While the AI field is taking shape, cryptocurrency exchange Gemini has secured a $100 million personal loan from its founders, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss. The funding came after so-called outside financing attempts failed. This week's Crypto Biz looks at competition in the global AI market, Winklevoss' loans to Gemini and MetaMask allow purchases of cryptocurrencies.
Winklevoss twins infuse Gemini with $100 million in personal loans
The co-founders of cryptocurrency exchange Gemini Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss are reportedly self-funding businesses amid the crypto market downturn through a personal $100 million loan. The capital injection follows previous attempts to raise funds from outside investors. Winklevoss brothers fund Gemini amid U.S. regulatory scrutiny. In January, the SEC charged Gemini with offering unregistered securities through the exchange’s Earn program.
Elon Musk reportedly bought thousands of GPUs for Twitter AI project
Tech billionaire Elon Musk appears to be moving forward with his plans to develop Twitter's artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. The Twitter CEO recently purchased nearly 10,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) for use in the platform, according to anonymous sources familiar with the company. Typically, GPUs are used for large-scale AI models because the technique requires a lot of computing power. A few days ago, Musk spearheaded a letter calling for a halt to AI development due to societal concerns.
MetaMask Launches New Crypto-Fiat Buying Feature

Various cryptocurrencies can be purchased within the feature via debit and credit cards, as well as PayPal, bank transfer, and instant ACH (Automated Clearing House). The service will be rolled out to users in more than 189 countries across eight different networks. MetaMask claims that the service takes into account the user's location and complies with local regulations.
Tech giant Alibaba launches ChatGPT rival AI
Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba is joining the global artificial intelligence (AI) race with its own version of a chatbot assistant. Alibaba announced the launch of a ChatGPT-like product in the "near future." The new product will be named Unified Thousand Questions, which translates in English as "seek answers by asking a thousand questions". The chatbot will initially be available in English and Mandarin. It will also integrate with Alibaba's vast ecosystem of tech businesses, including workplace messaging app DingTalk and voice assistant smart speaker Tmall Genie.
